Rogaine | Weight Gain is a side effect?

Rogaine is one of the most popular hair loss products on the market, and it’s been that way since it’s inception back in the late 80s. Although other brands of minoxidil have subsequently been released, none have come close to the popularity of Rogaine. But as with most treatments and medications, Rogaine does come with some side effects. One of the lesser known side effects of Rogaine is actually weight gain. But is this really possible, and if so, why?

Well, yes the reality is that a small percentage of people have experienced weight gain as a side effect of using Rogaine. Although it’s not common, numerous people have spoken out and said that the drug caused them to rapidly gain weight.

The reality is that the weight gain is not necessarily fat gain, and it isn’t a direct effect of the Rogaine – it’s a causal, knock on effect. Let’s look at the two most common ways that people experience weight gain when using Rogaine as a medication.

Water Retention

One of the potential side effects of using Rogaine can be water retention. This can cause users to gain a vast amount of weight in a short amount of time.

We know this because Minoxidil was originally used to treat high blood pressure, but the water retention that minoxidil users faced was a hindrance. In these cases, doctors also tended to prescribe diuretics along with the minoxidil to ensure that the body won’t retain water to the same degree. With using minoxidil for hair loss, doctors recommend that if you do experience any of these side effects then you should just look towards other hair loss products instead.

Though this is quite an uncommon side effect of using Rogaine, it does occur for a small amount of people.

Anxiety

One of the most common side effects that people experience when using Rogaine is heart palpitations and chest pain. This is likely due to the increase of blood flow that’s created by using minoxidil.

Unfortunately, anxiety is heavily related to weight gain. It’s thought that you’re more likely to experience weight gain as a knock on effect of the heart palpitations causing anxiety, than there being a direct correlation between minoxidil causing you to gain fat.

How does this work? Well, as stated minoxidil was actually used to treat high blood pressure. So when you’re using minoxidil, your body will actually start to maintain a lower blood pressure. The effect of this can be different for certain people, and this decreasing of blood pressure can cause people to have anxiety. One of the most commonly associated side effects of anxiety is weight gain, or an increase in hunger.

Heart palpitations and decreased blood pressure are a pretty strong side effect to experience from any sort of medication, so if you do experience these side effects then it’s worth contacting your doctor.

Other side effects

There are other side effects that you might experience when using minoxidil. They include;

  • Headaches – Headaches are one of the most common side effects of minoxidil. This is thought to be because of the increase of blood flow in the scalp.
  • Itchy scalp – An itchy scalp is another possible side effect of using minoxidil – again, not many people experience these side effects.
  • Dandruff – One of the most annoying side effects of Rogaine is dandruff. This is due to having a flaky scalp.

Conclusion

Overall, the likelihood that minoxidil is going to cause you any fat gain is minimal, though there remains to be much more research done on the matter. With the lack of research, it really is down to you whether you decide to use Rogaine as your hair loss product of choice.

Keranique vs Rogaine

Keranique and Rogaine are two of the big hitters in the hair loss market. If you’re experiencing hair loss and have been researching it, then you’ve undoubtedly come across these two names. But how do they really compare to each other – is one significantly better than the other, or are they relatively similar?

Simply put, these products are extremely similar in the way that they both use minoxidil as their primary hair loss ingredient – though Rogaine has a higher concentration of the hair loss drug.

As you might expect, normal Rogaine has 50mg of minoxidil for every gram of product (you might have guessed that from the 5% name). You can also find 2% Rogaine, but this is considered to be less effective and more appropriate for women and people with sensitive scalps.

The amount if minoxidil in Keranique is significantly less than this, though Keranique do not state the amount of minoxidil that you’ll find in their products. Like many other minoxidil shampoos, the amount of actually effective hair loss product in their shampoo is questionable.

How to Apply Each Product

Fortunately, it is relatively easy to apply each of these products to your scalp. Depending on the minoxidil that you buy – foam or regular – you’ll either have to squirt a few drops of product onto your scalp, or rub a small amount of foam onto your scalp (I prefer the foam myself).

Men's Rogaine Foam Hair Loss Treatment (3-Month Supply) & Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (7 fl. oz)
Men's Rogaine Foam Hair Loss Treatment (3-Month Supply) & Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (7 fl. oz)
  • Hair care bundle contains 3-month supply of Men's Rogaine Foam Hair Loss Treatment and 7 fl. oz. bottle of Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, for men's hair loss and dandruff treatment
  • Made with 5% Minoxidil foam, the Rogaine hair thinning treatment works as a no-mess foam that penetrates the scalp to reactivate shrunken hair follicles to help with hair regrowth for men.
  • This men's hair loss treatment is fast-working and clinically proven to regrow up to 25% more hair by working to boost hair follicle activity and hair protein production. It includes botanical extracts and emollient to help maintain a healthy scalp.
  • Nizoral dandruff shampoo contains effective ketoconazole 1%, a proven dandruff-fighting ingredient, to help control flaking, scaling and itching caused by dandruff.
  • This anti-dandruff shampoo features a thick, rich lather that rinses clean and leaves hair smelling fresh. Ketoconazole shampoo is gentle enough to use on color-treated, chemically processed and gray hair.

With Keranique, you’ll get 4 different products to use for your hair. You’ll get shampoos and conditioners to use, and you’ll also get an ‘after the shower’ spray that they recommend you spray onto your hair post shower. You’ll also get another spray to use later in the evening.

For this reason, it’s pretty easy to see that Rogaine wins on an ‘ease of use’ scale – it’s considerably easier to use than Keranique.

Side Effects

Though the side effects of both of these products is relatively minimal, you will find that you may experience some adverse feeling when using these products.

Rogaine

With Rogaine, you are more likely to experience headaches. This is because the high concentration of the drug promotes blood circulation in your head, which in turn has been said to increase the likelihood of headaches.

Some people that have used Rogaine have also reported experiencing an itchy, flaking scalp. This is a common side effect of a lot of hair loss products, as some people just don’t work with certain formulas.

Another particularly concerning side effect that some people have experienced from using Rogaine is weight gain, though the people experiencing weight gain seems to be minimal.

Keranique

As keranique contains minoxidil as Rogaine does, you’re exposed to all of the same side effects as you would be using either product.

It’s worth mentioning a few other side effects that you might experience from either of these products. Another side effect that many people experience from minoxidil is chest pains and an increasing heart rate. Though much of the research behind this is still unknown, it’s though that this is related to the increase of blood circulation throughout the body.

There is also the possibility of other symptoms related to anxiety – some people have reported feeling dizzy and lightheaded after starting to use Keranique and Rogaine. It is difficult to tell whether these are symptoms related to the product itself or another issue.

Conclusion

If you are considering using either of these two products, then I advise you do a little more research into which one would work best for me. Personally, I would prefer to use the high concentrated Rogaine as opposed to Keranique – it has a better track record and a longer life span within the hair loss industry. The Rogaine name speaks for itself, which is why it’s still extremely popular today.

Minoxidil vs Finasteride

It’s not difficult to see that there’s two main contenders in the hair loss treatment market. They are Minoxidil and Finasteride, and they’ve been the top two hair loss treatments for a long time now. Especially since being branded in the 80s and 90s by their most popular brands – Propecia and Rogaine.

But comparing these two hair loss treatments is extremely difficult, and they actually often work very well together. They work in entirely different ways, so it can be hard to know which is these hair loss treatments is ‘better’.

The difference between Minoxidil and Finasteride is pretty simple. Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT in your body – DHT is the primary cause of baldness in men. DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, does affect women too in some ways, but it’s primarily an issue if you’re dealing with male pattern baldness. This is a natural thing for your body to do, which is why some take issue with the use of hair loss drugs.

So whilst Finasteride is made to prevent this conversion, Minoxidil works in a different way. Minoxidil helps to improve the circulation of blood in your scalp. This allows more stimulation in your hair follicles, which helps your hair to regrow where the follicle may have previous been impaired. With the increased blood flow and oxygen reaching your hair follicles, you have more chance of hair regrowth and help to mitigate any current losses you’re experiencing.

Rogaine and Finasteride vs Shampoos

Of course, you’ve probably heard about how bad DHT is and how it’s causing baldness for every guy. There’s an abundance of DHT blocking shampoos appearing on the market, but the likelihood is that none of them will be as effective as Propecia. And in the same breath, there’s a lot of Minoxidil shampoos appearing on the market too – but would they be able to compete with just using Rogaine? It’s unlikely.

Both Rogaine and Propecia are made with carefully designed formulas to contend with your hair loss. Neither of these methods were designed to be applied as a shampoo in the shower – especially Minoxidil, which works best if left for a longer period of time than a few minutes.

Of course, with these products comes the possibility of some side effects. To me, the minoxidil side effects appear minimal if you compare then to Propecia, but I’ll let you make up your own mind.

Minoxidil Side Effects

Men's Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam for Hair Loss and Hair Regrowth, Topical Treatment for Thinning Hair, 3-Month Supply

  • Men's hair growth treatment also contains botanical extracts and emollient to help maintain a healthy, conditioned scalp, plus alphahydroxy acid (AHA) to promote natural skin exfoliation to help keep follicles open

  • Men's hair growth treatment delivers clinically visible results in as little as 12 weeks and comes in an easy-to-apply foam, specially designed to fit into your daily routine

Dark Circles Under the Eyes – This is one of the lesser known side effects that you might experience when using minoxidil.

Itchy Scalp – Another side effect that is reported when using minoxidil is itchy skin. This is probably because the scalp gets much drier when you use minoxidil for a prolonged period of time. This is actually why it’s recommended to use minoxidil as a trifecta with other hair loss products, including ketoconazole, which promotes a healthy scalp.

Nausea – As with many other products that are used to treat hair loss, nausea is relatively common when taking minoxidil. The difficult thing about this is that it is hard to tell what is causing the nausea – is it the minoxidil, or is it something else? Well, it’s hard to know but the likelihood is that if you haven’t changed anything else in your diet and you’re sleeping well, then minoxidil may be the cause.

Propecia/Finasteride Side Effects

Erectile Dysfunction – One of the scariest things for men is ED, and it’s the main reason why I would be cautious of using Propecia. Less than 3% of people reported that they experienced this, but for me it just isn’t worth the risk.

Libido disappearing – Along with ED, some people report that your libido decreases whilst using Propecia. In fact the most scary part of this is that the few people who did experience this said that it took a while for their sex drive to return after they stopped using Propecia – scary, huh!

Weakness – Whilst this isn’t a definite, there are people who think that finasteride can cause a temporary feeling of weakness in your body. This is a pretty common side effect of many different products, so it’s not surprise that this may be a side effect of using Propecia. These are the main side effects of using Finasteride.

Effectiveness

Comparing the effectiveness of minoxidil and finasteride is very difficult, because they both work in completely different ways. We can however, look at the people that have used each of these different products.

It’s worth mentioning the availability of both these products. With Rogaine, you can easily purchase it over the counter or find it online. This isn’t the case with Propecia however, which you’ll need to go and visit your doctor or see a dermatologist to get a prescription. This could indicate that Propecia is more effective, though this isn’t necessarily true.

In reality, it’s impossible to know which of these products is more effective. It completely depends on the individual – some people experience adverse side effects from Fin, and vice versa.

How they work

Minoxidil/Rogaine

Tradtional Rogaine is pretty easy to use. Back when I used Rogaine myself, I used a small pipette to squirt the formula onto my scalp. But nowadays, it seems the better option is to opt for the Rogaine Foam and simply rub it into your head twice a day. You can also use it in combination with Nizoral for better effect.

Minoxidil helps to promote blood circulation in the scalp, helping the flow of blood to your hair follicles. Though the research on minoxidil isn’t as thorough as with Finasteride, it is FDA approved (one of the only hair loss products to get this certification!).

Propecia

Many people of for Propecia for it’s ease of use. It’s commonly take in a 1 mg pill that you only have to take once per day, which makes it an extremely attractive option. It’s said that Finasteride has been supporting Hollywood hairlines for 30 years – and with good reason!

Unlike Minoxidil, Propecia simply prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT in your scalp.

Conclusion

Overall, it’s very difficult to compare both Propecia and Minoxidil directly as they work in totally different ways. In fact if you go to a dermatologist, many of them will recommend you use both of these products in unison for best effect.

It is safe to say however, that these two are undoubtedly the most proven hair loss products available on the current market. They undoubtedly work for the majority of people, which is more than you can say for some other products that are around.

Lipogaine vs Rogaine

Rogaine, also known as minoxidil, is one of the better known methods for helping to prevent hair loss in men experiencing male pattern baldness. The majority of people will have heard of Rogaine at some point in their lifetime. But what about Lipogaine? Is it as effective as Rogaine and can it be used as an alternative, or are you better off sticking with minoxidil?

If you didn’t know, Lipogaine is essentially a shampoo blend that contains minoxidil. This makes it easier to apply to your hair, but it may be less effective than using Rogaine because it’s diluted.

That’s right – it’s very hard to compare these two as one of the main ingredients, and reasons that Lipogaine works, is that it contains 5% minoxidil. There’s no denying or arguing that Rogaine is one of the most effective hair loss products currently on the market – the only real competitor in terms of size is finasteride.

Rogaine

Rogaine has been the go to hair loss product for over 20 years now – so much so, that many people use the term Rogaine as a general name for the actual chemical, Minoxidil.

Men's Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam for Hair Loss and Hair Regrowth, Topical Treatment for Thinning Hair, 3-Month Supply
Men's Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam for Hair Loss and Hair Regrowth, Topical Treatment for Thinning Hair, 3-Month Supply
  • 3-month supply of Men's Rogaine 5% Minoxidil Foam hair growth treatment to help treat hair loss, maintain hair density and allow for the regrowth of fuller hair
  • Formulated with 5% Minoxidil, our fast-working hair regrowth treatment works to boost hair follicle activity and hair protein production and is clinically proven to regrow up to 25% more hair
  • Men's hair growth treatment also contains botanical extracts and emollient to help maintain a healthy, conditioned scalp, plus alphahydroxy acid (AHA) to promote natural skin exfoliation to help keep follicles open
  • From the #1 dermatologist-recommended brand, this anti-hair loss foam is ideal for use at the early stages of hair thinning and features Tricho-Prime Technology that works on contact to create a healthy hair regrowth environment
  • Men's hair growth treatment delivers clinically visible results in as little as 12 weeks and comes in an easy-to-apply foam, specially designed to fit into your daily routine

The reason that Rogaine works so well is that in helps to increase the circulation of blood flowing through the scalp (this is also one of the reasons it’s primary side effects is headaches!). This extra circulation helps blood to flow to your hair follicles, which in turn spurs growth. The other side effects that you may experience from using Rogaine include weight gain and an itchy scalp.

Though in spite of these possible side effects, Rogaine still proves to be one of the most popular methods of promoting hair growth and dealing with male pattern baldness today. But what about Lipogaine?

Lipogaine

Lipogaine was created to help deal with the hassle of applying Rogaine twice daily. This is one of the more common complaints about minoxidil – you have to continuously apply it until you’re ready to accept balding (which is totally normal, for the record).

Lipogaine Hair Stimulating All Natural Shampoo for Hair Thinning & Breakage (purple) (16oz)
Lipogaine Hair Stimulating All Natural Shampoo for Hair Thinning & Breakage (purple) (16oz)
  • Infused with keratin, argan oil, aloe vera to hydrate, strengthen and repair hair, add volume and shine
  • Enriched with vitamins and castor oil to rejuvenate scalp, supports healthy and vibrant hair.
  • Natural ingredients based, free of harsh chemicals, for all skin types, 16 OZ large bottle
  • FOR MEN AND WOMEN and all ages and ethnicities, including African American and black hair
  • Satisfaction Guaranteed

Lipogaine contains Minoxidil 5%, which is the best option for people looking to tackle male pattern baldness. Along with minoxidil, Lipogaine also contains a lot of other hair loss products which will have an effect on your hair. These include;

  • Keratin – Keratin treatments are extremely popular for hair loss, so including some keratin is a no brainer. This is especially true seeing as your hair is made up of a large portion of keratin.
  • Argan Oil – Argan oil is pretty commonly used to help treat scalp conditions, which is one of the main reasons you’ll find it in the majority of hair loss shampoos. Often, temporary hair loss can be caused by an underlying condition.
  • Jojoba Oil – Although the research on the effectiveness of jojoba oil is minimal, it’s still thought to be a good benefits to add to hair loss formulas. This is because it’s great for dealing with a dry scalp and helps to reduce the chance of getting dandruff.
  • Biotin – Having a biotin deficiency is proven to have an effect on the quality of your hair. Making sure you get enough biotin in your diet is essential, and if you aren’t eating enough biotin naturally, then a supplement can make sense.

Do minoxidil shampoos like Lipogaine even work?

It’s debatable as to whether minoxidil shampoos even work to their full potential when they are diluted significantly. There’s little research to back up how effective that minoxidil shampoos can really be.

The main reason that there is an issue with minoxidil shampoos is that to really work, minoxidil needs to be applied to your head for an extended period of time. If you’re using your shampoo in the shower, then there’s a good chance that you’re going to wash some of the formula off of your scalp before it really gets the chance to have an effect on your head.

Conclusion

For the main reason that minoxidil shampoos are likely to be less effective than the real thing, I’d be inclined to opt for Rogaine as opposed to Lipogaine. Although there are many people who say that Lipogaine worked well for them, there are far more positive reviews of people who have used Rogaine successfully. There’s a reason it’s one of the big three hair loss products along with Fin and Nizoral – it just works!

If you’re looking for a good way to mitigate any further hair loss and actually have a standing chance at fighting baldness, then I’d advise to opt for Rogaine out of these two options.

Does using an Egg Shampoo for Hair Growth work?

One of the more ‘out there’ ways of regrowing your hair that I’ve heard of is to use eggs. Now, there are many other hair growth myths that aren’t true, but there are elements to this one that really make sense. But can an egg shampoo really work for hair growth?

The answer is that in all honesty, the research is very thin on the use of eggs for hair growth. But, the majority of people do agree that it can help to rejuvenate your hair follicles.

The primary reason for this is that eggs are filled with protein. The protein in the egg will help your hair maintain it’s thickness. Your hair is primarily made up of keratin protein, so using eggs to help strengthen the hair is a no brainer.

As well as the copious amounts of protein that you get from eggs, there are a lot of other vitamins and minerals that they contain too.

Mario Badescu All Purpose Egg Shampoo, 16 oz.
Mario Badescu All Purpose Egg Shampoo, 16 oz.
  • Gentle enough to use as an all-in-one shampoo and shower gel
  • Simple, mild formula
  • Gentle for all hair types

What minerals and vitamins do you find in eggs?

The main reason that people started to use egg shampoos is that they were high in protein. But, there are an abundance of other minerals that you’ll find in eggs which are also great for your hair. Some minerals include;

  • Sulfur – Healthy hair already contains a lot of sulfur, but it’s easy to become deficient in it. It’s important to give your hair enough sulfur.
  • Iron – An iron deficiency is one of, if not the, most common way that people experience hair loss through a lack of minerals. Though eggs are full of iron, they’re definitely a good source.
  • Zinc – Zinc is important, not only for the health of your hair, but for your health in general too.
  • Selenium – Many people aren’t even aware of what selenium is. It’s one of the most important minerals for hair loss along with zinc.

As well as minerals, there are also a lot of vitamins that can help with your hair growth – such as;

  • Vit A – Although eggs aren’t filled with vitamin A, they are still a good source of vit A. Of all the vitamins, this is one of the most important as it’s essential for healthy hair.
  • Biotin – A deficiency in Biotin can undoubtedly contribute to hair loss, so it’s important to ensure you’re getting enough of it in your diet.
  • Lutein – Again, lutein is one that you might not have heard of but it’s definitely something you should be aware of.

Why an egg shampoo?

The reason that egg shampoo can be a better idea than just using raw eggs alone is that raw eggs have the ability to dry your hair out. The intensity of a protein treatment for your hair is usually left to professionals, and if you leave the egg mixture on your hair for too long, you’ll undoubtedly end up with dry and lifeless hair. Using a shampoo specifically designed for treating your hair is a good idea because there is a carefully calculated measure of protein – not too much that will leave your hair dry.

Another benefit to opting for an egg shampoo as opposed to just using raw eggs is that you don’t need to worry about the horrible smell – and thought of putting raw eggs on your head! Using raw eggs is an option, but you’ll undoubtedly smell faintly off eggs until you wash your hair thoroughly afterwards. You can use eggs to shampoo your hair, as the video below explains;

Conclusion

It’s pretty clear to see that eggs can be an awesome way to combat hair loss and in fact, promote hair growth. Although it isn’t the most sure way to regrow hair – there are other options that may work better – there’s really little risk of trying an egg shampoo to combat your hair loss.

It will undoubtedly work well with people experiencing temporary hair loss, but the likelyhood a shampoo will help male or female pattern baldness is minimal.

What are the benefits of using eggs for hair loss?

If you’re experiencing hair loss, then you’re probably look at ways that you can reverse it, or at least slow it down. One fairly unknown – commonly referred to as an ‘old wives tale’ – is to use eggs to help reduce hair loss. But does it actually work, and if so, why?

Well, yes eggs are used to help deal with hair loss, and yes they can definitely help too. Not only are eggs good for slowing down hair loss, but they can actually help to promote growth too.

The reason that eggs are used for hair loss is primarily that they are full of vitamins and nutrients that can help your hair to grow.

What parts of an egg aid hair loss?

Eggs are one of the best foods that you can add to your diet if you’re looking to fill in the gaps in your nutrition. Why? Well, they’re filled with lots of different nutrients that make them a staple of many diets throughout the world. Here are a few of the main nutrients in eggs that will likely help with hair loss.

Vitamin A – Vitamin A is the red wine of the nutrient world. In the right amounts, Vitamin A is good for you and it’s great for keeping your hair luxurious and healthy. But in large quantities, Vitamin A can actually be really bad for your hair, so it’s important to not get too much Vit A. Fortunately, eggs only have a small amount of vitamin A in them, so they’re an ideal choice if you want to ensure you’re getting enough.

Biotin – Ah, Biotin. Biotin has been used for hair loss for a while now. Although it lacks the scientific research to back it up, there are cases in which biotin can have an effect on your hair. Primarily if you’re experiencing Biotin deficiency, then one of the main symptoms of this is hair loss. Ensuring you get enough biotin in your diet is important if you want to avoid a deficiency.

Lutein – Although lutein is usually known and considered as an excellent vitamin for your eyes, it’s awesome for the health of your hair, too.

Lutein helps to keep your hair hydrated, which is important when you’re battling against hair loss. It’s also an important vitamin for the elasticity of your hair.

Minerals

It’s a common misconception that vitamins are the only thing that can have an effect on your hair – they’re not.

If you’re deficient in certain minerals, then they can cause you to experience hair loss. Not only this, but they can help to improve the quality of your hair, too. Fortunately, eggs also have an abundance of great minerals that can have an effect on your hair.

Sulfur – Sulfur is an important mineral for your hairs health. Your hair is rich in sulfur naturally, and it’s important to get enough sulfur in your diet. Eggs are an awesome way to ensure you’re getting enough of the ‘beauty mineral’ – great for your hair, skin and nails too.

Iron – Although eggs aren’t filled with iron, they do contain a pretty significant amount that can have an effect on your iron levels.

An iron deficiency is one of the more common reasons for experiencing temporary hair loss, so upping your intake of iron can be a great way to combat this.

Zinc – Although research on the effect on zinc on your hair is pretty slim, there are articles that confirm that zinc and copper play an important role in hair loss (there’s copper in eggs too, just not as much).

There’s approximately half a milligram of zinc per full egg, so if you add a few to your diet then you can be sure to help meet your allowance. If you want to get your RDA of zinc, then you’ll need to eat some more foods that are rich in zinc.

Selenium – A lesser known mineral, but by no means less important than the others. Selenium is important for helping to promote blood flow throughout the body and the scalp, helping promote hair growth.

Other Parts

Protein – As well as all the minerals and vitamins mentioned, perhaps the most important nutrition that you’ll be getting from the egg is the protein.

You hair follicles are made up of mainly protein, so it’s important that you get enough of it for them to maintain their growth.

The Best Way to Use Eggs for Your Hair Loss

There are three ways that you can make the most of eggs to help reduce your hair loss. The first way is pretty simple – eat more eggs! Increasing the intake of eggs in your diet is the easiest way to help with your hair loss – though it may not be the most effective.

Egg Supplements

You can also find quite a few egg supplements on the that can increase your intake of egg collagen. The majority of these formulas will not be solely egg, but will include egg as part of their supermix (sort of like a multivitamin). A good example of this is Renew , which is a multi collagen protein powder. It combines various different collagens to help benefit your health.

Egg collagen is not just useful in helping with your hair loss – it’s great for your skin and joints, too.

Store Bought Egg Masks and Shampoos

You can find some egg hair treatment masks  online. You can even find a shampoo that’s made specifically with eggs that can be used to help treat your hair loss.

Though the more common way to treat your hair with eggs is to actually do it yourself.

How to make your own egg mask for your hair

Whilst I’d love to just tell you to crack an egg on your head and be done with it, this isn’t the best way to apply egg to your hair.

The most common way to use eggs as a hair mask is to mix it with some sort of oil. Many recommend regular olive oil, but you can also use coconut oil if you’d prefer.

  1. Mix the egg with the oil – you’ll only need a few tablespoons of oil, so don’t overdo it. A good rule of thumb is to use whole eggs for regular hair, egg whites for particularly oily hair and the yolks if you have dry hair.
  2. After you’ve mixed it together thoroughly, apply the mixture to your hair with a brush. Don’t be shy – do this over the bath if you’re worried about mess.
  3. Wait for a couple of minutes for the egg mixture to do it’s magic.
  4. Jump in the shower or put your head over the sink and wash the mixture with cold water.

This is the simplest way to apply eggs to your own hair, though there are other alternative ways that you can do this. Here’s a quick video tutorial to make things easier;

Can eggs affect my health negatively?

If you are worried about the drastic increase in eggs in your diet, then you shouldn’t be. You don’t need to start eating a dozen eggs a day to start to see the benefits of including more of them in your food plan.

The main risk that comes with eating too many eggs is of course, cholesterol. This has been told to generations of people – that you should limit your egg consumption in fear of increasing cholesterol. Although it seems that recently, more research has been coming out that actually opposes this, saying that eggs don’t increase your cholesterol at all!

Of course the other risk of eating eggs or using it on your hair directly is allergies – it should go without saying that you shouldn’t consider using eggs if you are allergic to them.
