What’s the best shampoo for bald heads?

It’s generally assumed that once you’ve finally lost all of your hair, you don’t need to use shampoo anymore. I mean, why would you? Shampoo is for hair right? Well, that’s not necessarily the case. Shampoo can be great for keeping the scalp clean, which is still a necessity even if you’re bald. So, getting the best shampoo for a bald head is still a good idea.

But not all shampoos are created equal, and some shampoos are better suited to bald heads than others. The reason for this is that your scalp is now expose the majority of the time. You don’t have that layer of hair to protect you any longer. You’re exposed to sunlight and all sorts of weathers the majority of the time. This is why you need to take better care of your head after you’ve gone bald. And a good shampoo is the best way to do that.

Fortunately for you, I’ve been bald for many years now and I’ve tried various different shampoos in that time. Some work much better than others, and it might be worth trying out a few different ones to see which works best for you.

  • Shampoo contains sodium
  • One of Maple Holistics most original and best-selling formulas, Sage Shampoo can help eliminate dandruff in an easy and natural way. No longer do those with moderate-to-heavy dandruff plaguing the scalp area have to suffer the embarrassment and inconvenience that comes along with dandruff dust shoulders guaranteed.-Gentle hypoallergenic shampoo platform contains no harsh ingredients, no sulfates, no parabens, is cruelty-free and vegan-friendly, and is safe for color treated hair.-

Maple Holistics have been one of my favorite shampoo brands for ages. I’ve used a variety of their different shampoos, but my favorite shampoo of theirs is the Sage Shampoo. It contains Jojoba, Argan and organic tea tree oil which are the common denominators when it comes to shampoos. This is because they work well with soft and sensitive skin.

It’s made for those with dandruff and colored hair, but I’ve found that it works really well for my scalp. This is because my scalp is particularly sensitive and you need a gentle shampoo to work with your scalp. The issue with some shampoos is that they are filled with nasty ingredients, so it’s also important you find a shampoo that’s organic.

Parabens and fragrance are an absolute no no when it comes to shampoo for a bald head. These are the most likely ingredients to cause irritation, and this is exactly what we’re trying to avoid. If you’re after a hypoallergenic shampoo that will work well with a bald head, then you can’t really go wrong with any products from Maple Holistics.

Nizoral Shampoo

Along with my other shampoos, I also like to include Nizoral into my bald head care regimen. This is one of the better options if you’re dealing with common irritations that come from using a razor to shave your head.

Sale
Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 Fl. Oz
Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 Fl. Oz
  • Shampoo fights dandruff outbreaks
  • Ketoconazole 1% controls flaking, scaling, and itching
  • Use just twice a week
  • Thick, rich lather rinses clean

The main reason that I started using Nizoral was that I started to get forehead bumps. This might not have been as noticeable if I had hair, but as a bald man it’s pretty important that you have clear skin. Otherwise, it’s super apparent because you don’t have any hair to cover up your bumpy skin.

So, I originally started using Nizoral to dry and deal with the initial bumps on my forehead. And they cleared up within a few weeks. This is likely due to the fact that Nizoral helps to reduce the oil in the skin. It also helps to stop the conversion from testosterone to DHT (which makes it great for hairloss too!).

Since then, I’ve continued to use Nizoral and my skin has continually stayed relatively neutral. If you have oily skin, then I suggest that you try it to see if it helps with your scalp.

With Nizoral, you don’t need to use it every single day. You can integrate in with another shampoo and just use Nizoral once or twice a week and still get awesome results.

Neutrogena T Gel

If you’re looking for a good scalp care shampoo, then you really need something that can protect you against psoriasis and dandruff. Nizoral is one of the better shampoos on the market, with it’s main competitor being T Gel.

Sale
Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo, Original Formula 8.5-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)
Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo, Original Formula 8.5-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)
  • 8.5-fluid ounce bottle of Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic and Anti-Dandruff Shampoo to get long lasting relief from itching and flaking
  • Original therapeutic formula helps control scalp itching and flaking caused by chronic scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and even common dandruff
  • Contains coal tar extract, which scientific tests have proved continues to work for hours after the shampoo is rinsed off
  • From the #1 dermatologist-recommended brand, this dandruff treatment shampoo helps maintain a healthy scalp and leaves hair clean and manageable.
  • Designed for daily use. For best results, use at least twice a week or as directed by a doctor. Massage shampoo into your scalp, lather, leaving on your hair and scalp for several minutes, and then rinse.

T Gel helps to sooth the scalp. It isn’t as strong as T Sal, which is another of Neutrogenas best selling hair shampoos. It’s main ingredient is coal tar extract, which is scientifically proven to help with an itchy scalp. Not only this, but it works for several hours after you apply it too.

It’s primarily used for oily skin and dandruff conditions, which makes it perfect for use on a bald head. This is because your head is permanently exposed to the weather, and it will need a particularly sensitive shampoo to ensure that your scalp is fine.

Argan Oil Shampoo

You don’t necessarily need to get yourself a specialist shampoo like Nizoral or T Gel if you don’t want to. A more general option is to go for a more common shampoo, with Argan Oil shampoos being an awesome option for bald guys.

Sale

  • Smoothing for color treated, processed & natural hair. Our natural ingredients, like silk protein & phytokeratin, promote frizzy damaged hair repair for healthier hair.

The reason being for this shampoo is not so much because of the Argan oil itself – which is proven to be good for the skin – but also the abundance of other ingredients that help to make it a good option for your skin.

This Argan oil shampoo is filled with good oils – argan, jojoba, avocado and others that can help to keep your skin nourished and moisturized. This is a pretty average shampoo and is a better option if you’re looking for a budget option for your scalp.

Conclusion

Overall, you need to try and find a shampoo that works well with your skin. Remember that the skin on your scalp is significantly more expensive than the skin elsewhere on your body, so it can pay to get a better quality shampoo as a bald person. Whilst you don’t need to spend too much, usually these higher quality shampoos will set you back a little bit more than your average shampoo.

The Ultimate Bald Head Care Regime

Some people assume that when you go bald, that’s it for your head now. No need for anymore shampoo – I mean, you don’t have any hair right? No need to worry about dandruff or psoriasis – that’s only for people with long, flowing locks right?

Well actually, you couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, when you start to go bald you actually need to start taking care of your scalp and appearance in general more. If you’re going to rock the bald look well, you need to ensure you have a healthy scalp.

Because your scalp is always on show, a good regime is a necessity. Before, you may have been able to use a random shampoo for your scalp. But now, you need to find something that works for you and your grooming needs. Heres my take on what the perfect bald head care regime is if you want to looking your best bald self.

Things you need for bald head care

  • A good shampoo
  • A razor that doesn’t irritate your skin
  • Some sensitive shaving cream
  • A good aftershave balm

Lets run through these things individually to ensure that you’re getting the best regime for your bald head.

Shampoo

Getting the best shampoo for your bald head isn’t easy – I tried a few different shampoos before I settled on the ones that suit me. I say one – I use two shampoos, and switch them out on alternative days.

The first shampoo that I use on a regular basis is from Maple Holistics. It works extremely well for those who have a sensitive scalp. It’s completely free of all parabens and fragrances, which are a commonly known irritant for your skin.

In reality, this shampoo isn’t necessarily made for people with bald heads. In fact, it’s advertised as being perfect for damaged colored hair and dandruff. Often shampoos made for dandruff are perfect for bald heads as they help to create a good environment for your scalp.

Along with this shampoo, I also use Nizoral Shampoo. I don’t use it every day, but I’ll use my Nizoral shampoo once or twice a week. You simply apply it for 2-3 minutes and then wash it off. It’s scientifically proven to help with the health of your scalp, and I’d definitely recommend it if you have an oily scalp (which is a common problem for bald guys).

Razor

Along with a good shampoo, you also need to find a razor that suits you. You’ve probably heard of the old safety razor vs cartridge razor debate, and it can be difficult to know which one is better.

Personally, I prefer to use a cartridge razor on my head. This is primarily because they are far more forgiving on your scalp, and you can go against the grain without being concerned too much about irritation. Red rash is common for bald heads, so you need to find a razor that works for you.

My favorite option right now is to use the Dorco Pace 6 – in fact, I only started to use the razor blades from them because I ordered them from the Dollar Shave Club. They’re made by the same company, so you don’t need to worry about them differing in quality.

Dorco Pace 6 Plus- Six Blade Razor System with Trimmer- 12 Pack Refill (No Handle)
  • World's First Six Blade + Trimmer - Tests prove higher blade counts deliver a closer, less irritating shave
  • Patented Angulated Blade Platform - Seamless blade construction leaves fewer obstacles for debris accumulation
  • Patented Common Docking System - Cartridge and handle interchangeability for shaving customization
  • Open Flow Cartridge - 100% "rinse-ability" of hair follicles eliminates corrosion for a longer blade life
  • Lubrication Strip - Vitamin E, Aloe and Lavender soothe and moisturize skin

Overall, there are an abundance of different razors on the market for you to choose from and it’s important that you get one that suits you. You don’t necessarily need to use a razor – you can also find some electric shavers that work well and mean that you don’t run the risk of irritation. I used the Skull Shaver for many years and was always happy with it.

Shaving Cream

Shaving cream is another important part of your arsenal as a bald man. The right shaving cream can leave your scalp feeling clean and refreshed. The wrong one will leave your scalp itchy and irritated.

You don’t need to blow the bank on an expensive shaving cream – there are some good cheaper shaving creams that you can use that will work absolutely fine.

The decision is really yours whether you decide to opt for a shaving cream, gel or even a shaving soap. Generally, most people use a shaving gel as this is the cheapest and most convenient. Though, it does definitely depend on your situation. Picking the correct method for you is crucial to your shave, and you should try a few different options to get the best one for you.

Post Shave Balm

A solid aftercare balm is another essential part of any head care regime. No matter how good you are at shaving, you’re going to experience some irritation at some point and it’s undoubtedly worth your time to pick up some aftercare balm.

Finding a good post shave balm is essential to your bald head care plan. You might not need to use it after every shave, but you should definitely get some incase you experience irritation. If you occasionally shave against the grain by accident – we all do it – then a good post shave can stop any irritation that you’re experiencing.

Conclusion

Overall, these are the necessary things that you must have to take care of your bald head. If you don’t have these 4 things, then your scalp might not maintain the same health that it would otherwise. You can pick up all of these things relatively cheaply, so there’s no need to break the bank for them.

Dollar Shave Club Review

For the last few years, it seems that the Dollar Shave Club has been advertised all over the place. After being advertised somewhat extensively for years, the company was bought by Unilever in 2016 for an estimated $1billion. It’s safe to say since then, advertising has only increased.

But are their products as good as they state, or are they just trying to sell you a cheap razor at a more expensive price? Well, I tried the Dollar Shave Club myself and I’ve decided to relive that experience with you so that you can learn from my investment.

The Dollar Shave Club Review – Trial

I signed up to the £5 trial (I’m in the UK) and soon came the package. With the Dollar Shave Club, with the trial you get the razor handle and 4 cartridge blades. It was also accompanied by a bunch of useless packaging that was trying to upsell the product, even though I’d already signed up for the most expensive razor. They also include a sizeable Dr Carver’s Shave Butter, which makes the trial pretty worth it for the cost.

I signed up for the Executive Razor handle, which I felt (and still feel) is pretty high quality. You also get 4 of their six blades razors, which have an aloe vera strip on them too. I also felt that these looked pretty decent, and after unboxing I was pretty happy with myself for purchasing.

The Shave

Usually I like to shave in the shower. Because I have a bald head, usually I would only use a razor for the scalp and a beard trimmer for my face. But for the purposes of testing this out, I decided to go completely shaven. I also used a different razor blade for the scalp as I did for the beard, as commonly the hair on your hair can be thicker and more coarse.

After my shower, I lathered up my scalp and found the razor to be pretty great. It works well against the grain, and I didn’t really feel any irritation either. Usually, I use the Headblade and I definitely felt that this was a step up in comparison.

It also worked well on the face, and I didn’t experience any irritation that way either. I have to say I was particularly impressed with the DSC. So much so, that I’ve continued to use their products – or ones like them (I’ll elaborate in a minute) – ever since. I generally go through one razor blade a week, shaving my head every other day.

I also liked the Dr Carver’s shave butter, but I can’t say that it was dramatically better than some of the cheaper shaving creams that I’ve used.

The Bad Part – Cost

The main negative that I could see with the Dollar Shave Club is the expensive cost. Sure, the trial pack was nice and provided great value. But after this period, you’re expected to cough of £8 ($10) a month for 4 razor blades. That doesn’t take in to account the Shave Butter, which doesn’t last longer than a month either.

Fortunately, I found a loophole.

I’ve since been ordered the Dorco Pace 6 Razor Blades from Amazon and using them. Dorco are the company that makes the DSC razor blades, and they provide the exact same product at a fraction of the price. When I bought them, they were less than half the cost of the ones from the Dollar Shave Club.

Sure, you have to buy them in bulk to get the best value but for me, this is a far better option. There’s not going to be a point where I don’t need to shave, so buying razors in bulk isn’t really an issue for me. And at a cheaper price, it is definitely worth going for the Dorco Pace 6 blades. You don’t need to worry about a new handle either – they work perfectly fine with the Executive handle from the DSC!

Conclusion

Overall, I can’t say that I recommend the Dollar Shave Club simply because of the expense. I mean, you could get the trial offer to give it a go and if you like it, opt for the razor blades from Dorco. This is probably the best option in my opinion, as you definitely get some value in the trial pack. But as a recurring subscription, I wouldn’t recommend it to my friends as it’s just too expensive.

Is one of Saw Palmettos side effects impotence?

Saw palmetto is one of the more commonly used products to try and deal with hair loss. Though it’s effectiveness has little research, there are many people who can attest that saw palmetto really works for hair loss. It’s been used primarily for many years to deal with prostate cancer and forms on an enlarged prostate, though recently people have found other uses of the fruit extract.

The main reason that people consider saw palmetto to possibly cause impotence is that it may inhibit testosterone. There is no research that suggests that saw palmetto may cause impotence, though there are a number of people who claim that they have struggle with erections since using it.

The lack of research around saw palmetto and erection problems suggests that you will need to make your own decision on whether it is a good choice for you to integrate it into your daily regime. If you are concerned about being recommended saw palmetto by a doctor, then you should consult your doctor about this.

What is saw palmetto?

Saw palmetto is a small palm tree that’s usually found in the Southernly states of the United States. It’s a fruit extract like aloe vera, and it’s entirely natural. This has probably contributed to it’s increase in popularity, as the majority of people are now looking for natural products as opposed to manmade.

What is saw palmetto used for?

Saw palmetto has been originally used to treat prostate issues. It works as a DHT blocker – similar to finasteride and other popular DHT blockers that you’ll find on the market. It helps to stop the breakdown of testosterone into DHT, which contributes to an enlarged prostate. Whilst it does not shrink the prostate itself, it does help to shrink the inner lining of the prostate.

It’s most commonly found available in a cream form. Though you will also find it available in a liquid form, as well as a pill form too.

Side Effects of Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto is generally considered as a safe option and it has minimal side effects. Though, there are some that you should be aware of before deciding to take saw palmetto.

  • Headaches – If you experience headaches when using saw palmetto, don’t worry – you’re not alone. This is a relatively common side effect that occurs with saw palmetto.
  • Dizziness and confusion – Dizziness and confusion is another common saw palmetto. This is a common side effects of many different medications however.
  • Constipation – Constipation is a common side effect of saw palmetto, though it only occurs in a small amount of people who use it.
  • Constant Urination – The need to urinate is a common sign of an enlarged prostate, so it is unsure whether this is a real side effect of saw palmetto.

Conclusion

If you’re experiencing any side effects of using saw palmetto, then you should consult your doctor immediately. Often, people recommend that you should opt to use Finasteride as opposed to Saw palmetto. Although they have similar side effects, many people prefer to use finasteride because it is clinically proven to work. Be aware that finasteride does also have the potential to cause erectile dysfunction, too.

Shower Gel vs Body Wash – Is there any difference?

If you’re considering purchasing some new products to wash your skin with, then it pays to know the difference between them. Some products work infinitely better than others, and some will just be more suitable to your skin. When you’re showering, you generally only need two products; something to wash your body, and something to wash your hair. But what if the two main products to wash your body – shower gel and body wash – are decidedly similar to each other? Or are there any differences between the two?

Generally, body wash and shower gel are considered almost the same. The only difference being that often shower gel will have a thinner consistency than body wash. This makes it more suitable for higher climes.

Deciding on which one will be better for you really depends on the sensitivity of your skin. It is difficult to know which one of these products would be best for you without try it, so it’s definitely worth trying the different products out and seeing which works best for your skin.

Differences between shower gel and body wash

Although both of these products work the same, you are likely to notice some slight differences between the two. The main differences that you may notice are;

  • Concentration – Both body wash and shower gel have different levels of concentration – they’ll usually be different levels of thickness, with shower gel usually being more highly concentrated.
  • Texture – You’ll likely notice the difference in texture between shower gel and body wash. They feel different against the skin, so it’s understandable that they would be different textures.
  • Lather – The main reason that some people prefer to use body wash over shower gel is that is provides more lather, similar to the effect of soap. Although you do often get this with shower gel, it isn’t as prominent as with body wash

As you can see, there are not many differences between these two products. They are very similar, and it’s really a personal preference deciding which one works best for you.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, the best option is to pick up an inexpensive body wash and an inexpensive shower gel and see which one works best for your skin. The likelihood is that one will work far better than the other, and it’s impossible to tell which will be best for you without trying them.

Capixyl vs Minoxidil (Monat vs Rogaine)

Minoxidil is one of the most popular hair loss products on the market and it has been for some time now. If you’re looking for something to deal with hair loss, then the likelihood is that you’ve heard about minoxidil. But, you may not have heard of Capixyl, which is another hair loss product. Although not quite as popular as minoxidil, it has been increasing in popularity in recent years. But can the two products be compared, and which is better for hair loss?

Overall, it’s obvious that minoxidil is a more trusted product than Capixyl when considering hair loss. Minoxidil is the only FDA approved hair loss treatment that you can buy in stores.

Both of these hair loss products work in entirely different ways. Learning how they work is important to figure out which one will work best for your specific need.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil is the safest bet if you’re looking for a good hair loss treatment that actually works. It’s been recommended and approved for use by the FDA, which certainly puts it ahead of other treatments. The only other hair loss treatment is finasteride, but you need to be prescribed this by a doctor.

Minoxidil works by helps to increase the blood circulation in your scalp. One of the reasons that you begin to lose hair is that your hair follicles are dying. Minoxidil helps to improve the health of the follicles, and in turn spur growth.

Overall, there are many benefits of minoxidil which I’ve discussed extensively throughout the site. You can even get a minoxidil shampoo if you want to make it part of your daily regime, which you’ll need to if you want to prevent hair loss.

Capixyl (Monat)

Much like minoxidil is the primary hair loss agent in Rogaine, Capixyl is the primary agent in Monat. You will find Capixyl in other hair loss products, but it’s most commonly known for being in Monat. The way that capixyl works is to help cut down scalp inflammation. Scalp inflammation is a common cause of hair loss, and it’s important to keep your scalp healthy.

One of the most common reasons that people opt for capixyl is that it doesn’t have the side effects that minoxidil does. Minoxidil is known for causing headaches, which doesn’t seem to be an issue with Monat – although there’s been little time that it’s been on the market for analysis.

The main reason that Monat has become increasingly popular is that they have a good affiliate program. This means that if someone you know sells you the product, they get a percentage of the profits for themselves! This is a common way of marketing to try and get consistently good reviews for a product.

All you have to do is going and have a look at the Monat Reviews online and you can see that they don’t have the best track record. For this reason, I’d like avoid Monat.

Conclusion

Much like the whole minoxidil vs finasteride debate, it’s very difficult to compare these two as they work in very different ways. Whilst minoxidil works by stimulating blood flow, capixyl is a dht blocker and helps to reduce to the conversion from testosterone to DHT.

The good thing is that you can use these products together, although in my opinion you’d be much better off going for the more approved trio formula of minoxidil, finasteride and nizoral. Whilst capixyl may help to aid hair growth, the research on it is still and the Monat Reviews that I’ve read are not as conclusive as with other products.

What is the difference between shower gel and shampoo?

If you’re looking to get yourself some new beauty or grooming products, then the majority of people consider getting a new shampoo. Maybe you can rejuvenate your hair and make it look vibrant and thick. But one product that people often look over is a good shower gel, which can be another asset in your daily care regime.

Of course, the main difference between shower gel and shampoo is that whilst shower gel is designed to clean your entire body, shampoo is designed to concentrate on specifically the hair. Though there are some similarities between the two, and you’ll notice that many shower gels double up as a shampoo too.

But, you’ve probably seen many people who use their shower gel consistent to wash their body and hair. Or less likely, but you also find those who use shampoo to wash their entire body. So is there really much of a difference between the two products, or is it just a marketing ploy to make more money?

What’s the difference between shampoo and shower gel, then?

pH Level

Well, there isn’t much between them. The main difference that you’ll find between the two is the pH level.

The pH level of shampoo is usually a little bit lower than that of body wash. This generally means that it has more alkaline, which you might think makes a difference. The answer is that usually the difference is so insignificant, that the likelihood is that it won’t make much of a difference between the two.

If your shampoo has a pH level of 4-5 and you body wash has a pH level of 5-6 (on average), then you can easily see an overlap between the two. The more neutral the pH level is (closer to 7-8), then more it’s considered to be skin friendly.

Generally, this means that the alkaline level of your shampoo or shower gel is unlikely to differ dramatically.

Surfactants

Generally, you’re going to find far more surfactants in shampoo – especially in the Western world, where we’re often dealing with greasy and colored hair. There’s a necessity to use a stronger shampoo in some cases, which does suggest a difference between the two.

If you need a special shampoo for your hair, then you can’t really consider using shower gel for this. Shampoos are specially formulated to deal with harsh conditions like psoriasis and dandruff, which shower gel just can’t deal with.

Conclusion

Overall, the differences between shower gel and shampoo are really minimal. Unless you’re getting a shampoo specifically formulated to deal with a hair condition, then generic shampoos do not differ than much from regular shower gel. Generally they just have a lower pH level and they may have more surfactants, but not many.

How much hair loss is normal in the shower?

Are you losing hair in the shower? Well, don’t be too concerned. A little hair loss in the shower is totally normal, so you shouldn’t be too worried about losing a little hair every day. But if you’re losing more than a little, then hair loss can be an indicator of other issues. When you’re in the shower, it’s common for you to lose a little hair. But how much hair loss is normal in the shower?

Well, it’s understood that it’s normal to lose anywhere between 50 and 100 hairs per day. This is the average for everyone, so don’t panic if you’re losing this much hair on a daily basis.

So, how much hair loss on a daily basis is normal? Well, anything up to 200-300 hair being lost on a daily basis can be considered normal. If you’re concerned about your hair loss, then you can always go and see a dermatologist to try and determine the cause of your hair loss.

Why do you lose hair in the shower?

The main reason that you lose hair in the shower is that when your hair is wet, it becomes more vulnerable to breakage. Wet hair has a higher elasticity, which in turn means that you’re more likely to lose your hair whilst in the shower.

Main Causes of Hair Loss

When you’re losing your hair, it can definitely be a little overwhelming. However, you shouldn’t worry too much. There are a few main reasons that you might start to lose your hair.

  • Genetics – As you get older, it’s totally normal for you to start to shed hair. Of course, this shouldn’t be to a significant degree. But naturally as you get older your hair is going to thin. So, don’t be too concerned if you don’t have as much hair as when you was 16.
  • Nutritional Deficiency – There are tons of vitamins and minerals that if you’re deficient in, can have an effect on your hair. Of course, the most common one is Biotin but other b vitamins can also have an effect on your hair. Not getting enough iron? There’s a chance that can be causing your hair to fall out. Not getting enough Vitamin A? C? D? E? All of these deficiencies can contribute to hair loss.
  • Hormonal imbalance – A hormonal imbalance can be another common reason that you might be losing your hair. Unfortunately, hormones are hard to control and can be a difficult one to diagnose.
  • Stress – If you’re not getting enough sleep or you’re working long hours at work, then there’s a good chance that this can also be the cause of your hair loss. Try to take a break every now and then to let your body relax to avoid this being the cause of your hair loss.
  • Losing weight quickly – Losing a big amount of weight in a short period of time can be another cause of weight loss. To avoid this, try and lose between 1-2 lbs a week and don’t ut your body through any extreme stress.

Conclusion

Overall, there are many reasons that you may have started to lose hair. But, you shouldn’t be too concerned as it’s a pretty common issue. The majority of women lose a lot of hair in the shower, especially if you have coarse hair. Unless you’re losing a dramatic amount, don’t be too concerned about this.

Best Nickel Free Razor (Hypoallergenic)

A hypoallergenic razor is something that’s a necessity for those of us with sensitive skin. If you’re allergic to nickel, then getting a hypoallergenic shaver is definitely something that you’d need.

Although it’s more commonly thought that only women deal with nickel allergies, there’s plenty of men that have these issues too. Of course, more women deal with a nickel allergy than men but there’s still almost 1% of guys that deal with it. If you notice that you’re getting  red rash whenever you shave, then there’s definitely a possibility that you’ve got an allergy to nickel.

Nickel is one of the most common metals that people are allergic too. Unfortunately, the vast majority of razors contain nickel and you’re unlikely to find any on the market that don’t contain nickel. Usually they use a titanium coating which helps the top of the razors stay sharp, but underneath they contain cheap nickel that can cause irritation.

There are a few companies around that have products that contain minimum nickel. They prove to be a good option for those who really need a hypoallergenic razor.

Preserve Razor Blades

Sale
Preserve Triple Razor Blades, 24 cartridges (4 razors in each box, 6 boxes total), Packaging may vary
Preserve Triple Razor Blades, 24 cartridges (4 razors in each box, 6 boxes total), Packaging may vary

  • Preserve Replacement Triple Blades also fit: Personna Acti-Flexx and Gillette Sensor
  • Triple blades flex and pivot to prevent nicks and cuts and provide a smooth, close shave
  • Premium blade coating ensures smooth strokes and long blade life
  • No animal testing, ever. Made by Preseve: a certified B Corp company

Preserve are the biggest producer of nickel free razor blades that you can find online. Well, I say nickel free – the company state that the products have ‘minimal nickel’ in them so they’re okay if you’re allergic.

They are okay if you’re allergic to nickel as long as you don’t wear them down to the core – this is where the majority of nickel is situated in the razor blade. They are coated with titanium, which the majority of people do not have an allergy to and you should be okay using.

These are some of the most popular blades around, so you can be assured that they’re high quality and work well.

Opt for a shaver

The best option for the majority of people that have an allergy to nickel is to go for a foil shaver. There are many foil shavers on the market that don’t contain nickel, though you will have to shop around to find one that’s best for you. Here’s a few that I’ve seen that don’t contain any nickel.

Wahl Flex Shave

Wahl Flex Shave Rechargeable Foil Shaver #7367-400
Wahl Flex Shave Rechargeable Foil Shaver #7367-400
  • 3 heads - 3 shaving options - Sensitive, Comfort Close and Ultra Clean

  • Pop-Up Trimmer - wide precision blades for quick and easy detailing. High visibility for trimming sideburns, beard or mustache
  • Dimensions: 9.20" x 5.50" x 3.50" (H x W x D);Weight: 1.0 pounds. Refer to the PDF attached below for User Manual.

The Wahl Flex Shave is one of the only shavers – maybe the only shaver – that has a special setting that is designed for people with sensitive skin. It has three options – sensitive, comfort close and ultra clean. Between these settings, you’re going to find one that works well for you.

It’s a compact foil shaver that will suit anyone looking for something that can leave their skin alone without causing too much irritation.

Remington Titanium

The Remington titanium line is also another great option if you desperately want to try and avoid nickel. Of course, these products are primarily made up to titanium, so you don’t need to be worried about nickel.

There are an abundance of different Remington shavers on the market that you can choose from, but some are much better than others.

If you have a nickel allergy

If you have a nickel allergy, you undoubtedly want to pick up some Nickel alert. This is a great addition to anyone who needs to be sure that their razors do not contain any nickel.

All you need to do is apply this liquid to a razor with a cotton swab and wait to see if a red color appears. If it does, then you can be sure that there is some nickel contained in the item. If not, then you’re good to go and you don’t need to worry about there being nickel in your razors.

Nickel Alert - No Nickel - 2 Pack of Nickel Testing Solution for Jewelery, Watches, Belts
Nickel Alert - No Nickel - 2 Pack of Nickel Testing Solution for Jewelery, Watches, Belts
  • WORKS FOR ANY METAL - This testing solution works for any type of metal that you need to test. Whether its a watch, earrings, or a belt buckle, any metal jewelry object is testable.
  • SENSITIVE DETECTION - The Nickel Alert solution can test for Nickel (dimethylglyoxime nickel ) for any heavy metal object. This testing solution can detect the presence of nickel at a level as low as 10 ppm (parts/million).
  • EASY AND FAST TO USE - This invaluable kit's Nickel detection solution can test any metal item in only 30 seconds. Just wipe your object with a cotton swab and check for a red color.
  • LONG LASTING USE - This allergy testing solution allows for use after use. Just one bottle of Nickel Alert will last you for 100 - 150 positive tests to make sure your items are nickel free.
  • TWO BOTTLES FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE - The convenient two-pack lets you keep one bottle at home for testing items and take one with you on the go.

Conclusion

Overall, it can be a bit of a nightmare dealing with a nickel allergy. But up to 1 in 20 women deal with this, so remember that you’re not alone in your nickel allergy. If you look around on the market, then you can undoubtedly find something that will suit your needs like the Preserve Razor Blades. You might have to pay a tad higher prices, but it can be worth it to avoid the allergic reaction you might experience.

Safety Razor vs Cartridge Razor

In the razor world, there’s only two real competitors for the most practical. Whilst there are other types of razors like a straight razor, these are generally considered to be better for barbers. The real contenders for us regular folk are safety razors and cartridge razors. They both work well, but in slightly different ways. And, it’s important that you get the best razor for your needs.

The main difference between the two is the way that the blades are designed. With a safety razor, you’re getting one sharp blade to help shave closely. With a cartridge razor, you’re getting a specially designed 2, 4 or even 6 blade razor to cut through the hair.

Of course, you’ll find people in both camps as to which of these razor methods that they prefer. It’s likely one of these types of razors will work better for you than the other, but it is difficult to know which one will perform better. Let’s break the two down and analyse the differences between the two.

Safety Razor vs Cartridge Razor

Cost

Undoubtedly the winner in this battle is the safety razor. The reason for this is that safety razors generally all use the same blade. You have a little slot where you can put the blade in once you feel that the old one has been used to it’s full potential. With safety razor blades, you can often buy them in huge bulk to help cut costs. You can often find 50 of them on Amazon for somewhere between $10-20, which works out at $0.20-0.40 per razor blade.

  • ACCESSORIES INCLUDED: For your convenience, the 5-Star Balding Clipper comes with all accessories required for use. Package includes the clipper, (2) attachment combs, oil, cleaning brush, instructions, and red blade guard.

  • PLEASE NOTE: Wahl Professional Products purchased from this authorized dealer feature a manufacturer's warranty, which is not available from unauthorized dealers. Intended for sale and use in the US only.

Whereas with cartridge razors, you’re going to end up paying a lot more. Whilst this might not seem like a big deal at first, it can definitely add up in the long run. A good example is with the Dollar Shave Club, who charge more than $2 per cartridge. So for 50 of these, you’d end up paying over $100 – crazy! I do like the Dollar Shave Club cartridge blades though, and I’ve find a good way to get around the DSC expensive pricing.

So overall, a safety razor will undoubtedly be much cheaper for you in the long run.

Ease of Use

Undoubtedly a cartridge razor is easier to use than a safety razor. This is primarily because of the way that they’re built.

The safety razor uses a single razor blade. This means that you need to be super accurate with your shave and there’s really little room for making mistakes. With the single razor blade, you are in complete control of the angel that you’re going to shave your head at. It’s all down to you, and if you make any mistakes – which you will at first – then it’s decidedly easy to nick yourself.

With a cartridge razor, the blades have been designed to be at a 30 degree angle to try and help prevent you from cutting yourself. This makes for a much easier cut than with a safety razor. Of course after time, you will get used to using a safety razor – but there’s a pretty steep learning curve.

Time

You will need to take more care when using a safety razor as opposed to a cartridge razor. With a cartridge razor, you can cut against the grain and not worry too much about irritation. But with a safety razor, you will have to be far more precise with your shave.

Closeness of the Shave

This is one of the most divisive areas of the grooming community – which cuts closer out of a safety razor and a cartridge razor.

I can only say my own personal preferences. And that’s definitely for a cartridge razor. I’ve found that I’m easily able to keep my hair cut completely down to the skull with a cartridge razor. I can definitely do this with a safety razor, but I do find it easier with my cartridge razor. It just gets a little closer to the skin for me.

Conclusion

Overall, it really does come down to personal preference whether a safety razor or a cartridge razor would be better for your needs. They both have their benefits. If you want to save on cost, then it can be advantageous to learn how to use a safety razor properly. If you want convenience, then you should undoubtedly opt for a cartridge razor.

Best Mustache Trimmer

Many people think that a good beard trimmer automatically makes a good mustache trimmer. But, this isn’t always the case. Some trimmers can be big and bulky, which don’t make good for your mustache. It’s more difficult to maintain your ‘stache with a large trimmer, so it can pay off going for something smaller and more compact.

And whilst beards are getting increasingly popular year by year, many people forget that the mustache is just as important as the thicker bits. Grooming is extremely important, so it’s nice to ensure that you’re properly trimmed and neat.

Whilst there are tons of beard trimmers that are available, mustache trimmers are more scarce and you need to ensure that you’re getting a trimmer small enough to keep things neat and tidy. Let’s have a look at some of the better trimmers that you can find around.

Philips Norelco OneBlade

Sale
Philips Norelco Oneblade QP6520/70 Pro Hybrid Electric Trimmer and Shaver
Philips Norelco Oneblade QP6520/70 Pro Hybrid Electric Trimmer and Shaver
  • Rechargeable OneBlade can do it all - trim, edge, and shave any length of hair.
  • Shave is not too close so your skin stays comfortable.
  • More advanced than the original OneBlade, Pro features a powerful Li-Ion battery and 14 length settings.
  • Can be used wet or dry.
  • Replaceable  blade lasts up to 4 months. (Based on 2 full shaves per week. Actual results may vary.)

The Philips Norelco Oneblade is expensive – there’s no denying that. But, it’s leaps and bounds ahead of some of the other mustache and beard trimmers that I’ve tried. And, I’m going to explain why.

If you’ve ever dealt with razor burn on your neck – which I’d bet is the majority of guys – then you may be interested in the OneBlade. It’s not like a regular trimer which can cause irritation – the Oneblade simply needs to be help close to the skin to avoid this. It cuts much closer than your average beard trimmer, but not quite as close as a razor.

Another good thing that I like about the OneBlade is that you don’t need to worry about whether you use it wet or dry. I personally prefer to use a beard trimmer when my face is wet, so it’s important that I get one that works with a damp ‘stache. With the cheaper options, you’re just not going to get this – if you get water anywhere near a cheaper trimmer, often they clog up.

For a good mustache trimmer, you’ll undoubtedly need to buy the Oneblade with the variety of different attachments. It’s a bit more expensive, but you get 20+ attachments which make it worth it. Then means that you can trim your beard and mustache to pretty much any length with the different grades of attachments that you get.

A solid trimmer that even surprised me with how good it was against the skin – perfect for those with a sensitive face.

Gillette Fusion ProGlide Men's Razor Styler 3-In-1 Body Groomer and Beard Trimmer, Mens Razors/Blades
  • Trim with Braun engineered technology: Slim and easy to maneuver for even trimming. Includes three combs for custom length.
  • Shave with Fusion ProGlide Power: Gillette's most advanced blades.* Incredible closeness and comfort. *First four blades vs. Fusion.
  • Edge with Precision Edging Blade: Designed for crisp, defined lines
  • Contains: 1 Trimmer, 1 ProGlide Power Cartridge, 3 combs, 1 battery, and an organizer.
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging

If you want something that is a bit more budget friendly, then the Fusion Proglide is a great option. i’ve had the Proglide in my apparel for many years now, and I always end up using it still occasionally.

It’s small and compact, which means that it’s fantastic for travelling with. You don’t need to worry about a big bulky beard trimmer if you have the Proglide because although it’s small, it can still tackle a fairly hefty beard.

As well as being a great mustache trimmer, there’s another area which I’ve struggled to find a better trimmer – sideburns. Shaving your sideburns can be frustrating, as sometimes you want to get a definitive line between the beard and your hair. Using a smaller, more accurate trimmer like this can make thing a little easier.

Overall, the Proglide is one of the better budget options that makes for an awesome mustache trimmer. It might not suit you if you have a massive, thick beard but it’s a good option if you like to keep your facial hair trimmer neat and short.

Philips Norelco Multi Groomer

Sale
Philips Norelco Multi Groomer MG7750/49 - 23 piece, beard, body, face, nose, and ear hair trimmer, shaver, and clipper
Philips Norelco Multi Groomer MG7750/49 - 23 piece, beard, body, face, nose, and ear hair trimmer, shaver, and clipper
  • All-in-one trimmer for beard, head, body, and face hair styling: 23 pieces for all your trimming needs.
  • Maximum precision with DualCut technology includes 2x more self sharpening blades that remain after 5 years of use.
  • Lithium-ion rechargeable battery delivers up to 5 hours of run time per charge.
  • To deliver maximum torque and power, the trimmer includes a full-metal motor and a drive train that's been reinforced with tempered steel
  • Our unique cutting guards are reinforced with ultra-strong fiberglass material to prevent bending and buckling, ensuring an even trim every time

The Multi Groomer has been one of Norelco’s best sellers for a long time now. It’s undoubtedly one of, if not the most popular trimmer on the market. It’s ideal for those completely new to grooming.

The best thing about the multi groomer is that it comes with a super wide assortment of attachments  (which again, makes it ideal for young guys and beginners). Need a nose trimmer? Multi groomer has it. Ear hair getting a bit long? Well, the multi groomer does that too. If you want one item that can fit all of your grooming needs, then you can’t look past the multi groomer as a shaver.

One thing that people are often impressed with the Norelco multi groomer is it’s life. Cheaper trimmers usually go bust after a year or two – that’s just the reality of using cheap electronics. This isn’t a problem with the multi groomer, as you can see from the reviews. Many people state the the multi groomer lasts them 5 or more years, as long as you take care of it with proper maintenance.

An awesome option if you want a beard trimmer as well as a mustache trimmer. The multi groomer really does work for your entire face and pretty much the rest of your body, too.

Striking Viking Mustache Kit

Beard and Mustache Trimming Kit by Striking Viking - 4.5 inch Professional Grade Stainless Steel Scissors with Comb and Case - Groom and Trim Facial Hair with Precision - Silver
Beard and Mustache Trimming Kit by Striking Viking - 4.5 inch Professional Grade Stainless Steel Scissors with Comb and Case - Groom and Trim Facial Hair with Precision - Silver
  • PROFESSIONAL PRECISION: 4.5 inch polished steel scissors offer sharp, durable blades so you get the best cut.
  • UNIVERSAL DESIGN: Perfect for mustaches, eyebrows, sideburns and beards, the large finger loops make these scissors easy to control for superior styling.
  • STYLING COMB: Kit includes a 2.7 inch mustache comb to position stray hair for detailed cutting.
  • TRAVEL SIZED: Protective brown case and small size make these perfect for travel and everyday carry.
  • 100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEE - As with all our products, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with your purchase we'll give your money back.

For the real mustache aficionados, a proper mustache kit might be exactly what you’re looking for. If you already have a solid beard trimmer and you’re just looking to keep your mustache neat then it can pay to just use a smaller mustache kit.

The Striking Viking kit comes simply with a small pair of scissors and a mustache comb. Trimming your mustache accurate is definitely an art, and it takes time to get used to it. But of course, you need to get a specific mustache comb as opposed to a regular comb.

This is because a mustache comb will help you to get those straggling hairs that most people get at the corners of their ‘stache. If you do this with a regular comb, then you’re likely to end up leaving some hairs looking out of place.

Striking Viking also comes with some pretty sharp scissors, which can help to give your mustache a sharp cut. This set is similar to that you’d find in the barbers, but at a fraction of the price.

Philips Norelco GoStyler

Sale
Philips Norelco GoStyler FS9185/49 - face styler, precision contour trimmer, beard edging
Philips Norelco GoStyler FS9185/49 - face styler, precision contour trimmer, beard edging
  • With Dual Cut technology, twice sharpened for sharper blades and perfect edging
  • Detail foil shaver for perfect lines, edges, and contours
  • 3 precision beard combs for maintaining stubbles and mustache
  • Soft rubber grip for maximum control
  • Fully washable. Cutter width detail trimmer: 21mm (13/16 inches), Detail foil shaver: 21mm (13/16 inches), Cutting element: Stainless steel blades

Another Philips product  I know – I’m sorry. But it’s just a simple fact that the Norelco range are some of the better products on the market. And, they undeniably have the widest variety of any trimmer set.

The GoStyler is exactly as it says – it’s better for shorter beards and styling your face than it is for long beard. So, it’s not a good option for anyone looking for something that can tackle their entire face. Though if you’re OCD about your grooming like me, then it can pay to get something that trims close to the face.

The long neck of the GoStyler may make it unsuitable for some people – it really comes down to personal preference and what you may prefer. Though in my opinion, it’s one of the better options around if you’re looking for a mustache trimmer.

Conclusion

As mustache trimmers go, here are a few options that I’ve used personally. My favorite is likely still to be the OneBlade – I was really surpised when I used it for the first time. But I also still use the Gillette Fusion ProGlide pretty often too to clear up my sideburns and to keep the mustache neat.

Overall, these are some of the best mustache trimmers available on the market right now and you’d struggle to find better than this small collection.
