Generally the Dyson Supersonic is regarded as the best hair dryer currently available for the majority of people. Apart from the relatively high price tag it holds which may put some people off, it’s undoubtedly the number one around when considering luxury hair dryers.

One of the main reasons why the Supersonic is so popular is because of it’s ability to leave your hair undamaged. If you have damaged or particularly fine hair, then you’ll known exactly what I’m talking about. Cheap hairdryers are great and all, but a lot of them don’t have any form of temperature moderation. The ghd Air is difficult to compare to the Supersonic because they’re two of the best around. If we’re looking at dramatic differences, the Supersonic hasn’t got much that differentiates it from the Air. You’re getting a more powerful machine with the Air, as it has a higher wattage. For some, this may mean its better, as traditionally a higher wattage indicates that the hairdryer is more powerful. But if you used both together, you’d be unlikely to notice much of a difference in drying times.

The Air only has two different settings, whilst the Supersonic has three – this might make it better for salon use (which is kind of why they released the Supersonic Professional Edition – because it’s a salon quality hairdryer). But, for home use, the ghd Air has pretty much everything that you could need from a hairdryer.

What makes the ghd Air a better choice for most people over the Supersonic is the price different. And for a lot less change, the quality of the hair dryer is not significantly different in my opinion, especially if you’re only going to use it around the house. It still has all the great same power of the other more expensive hair dryers and it has a good precision nozzle too. So for a cheaper option than the Supersonic that isn’t compromising too much in terms of power and usability, then the ghd Air makes another decent choice.

Generally for the majority of people, the Gold series are likely to be the best option. But in terms of cost to effectiveness, I’d put them as my favorite pair. I think that it’s worth picking up the ghd’s as opposed to the originals, primarily because of their ergonomic design.

The originals follow a very basic design of a flat iron – that means that they have straight edges as opposed to curved. Like all ghds, they operate at 185 degrees, which is the optimal level to be hot enough to have an effect, but not so hot that it will damage your hair to any degree. They also have a 1 inch width, which is the norm for all ghd’s too. For most people looking to pick up the cheapest pair of ghd’s possible, then the Originals give you the ability to do this.

Whilst I much prefer the Golds, the originals still do a fine job for those that are only looking to straighten their hair. They’re not ideal for anyone looking to add curls to their hair, so if this is you, you might want to look elsewhere.

ghd Platinum

The ghd Platinum series are the most expensive options available if you’re looking for ghd’s, so it only makes sense that they should be the best, right? Well it really depends on what you’re looking for in a hair straightener in my opinion. Depending on what it is exactly that you’re looking for, the Platinums do offer something different to other models available.

The main advantage of the Platinums is that they’re specifically designed to be good to fine and damaged hair. This makes them ideal if you have damaged hair if you’re looking for a good flat iron that isn’t too harsh on your hair. This is mainly due to the technology that the platinums use, which is specially designed to work with all different hair types.

It adapts heat to the specific areas you need it depending on your hair style and it’s thickness, making it one of the first ‘smart’ straighteners’ that’s been released. In terms of effectiveness, they’re some of the best hair straighteners out right now. Although they run at a higher cost than the Gold’s and the Originals, they might provide a better options for those that deal with thin or damaged hair.

One bad thing about the Platinum model is that they have the highest return rate out of any set of ghds. They’re more likely to get the red death light, and if you look at all the reviews of ghd’s online, you’ll see more people have experienced this with the platinums than any other model. So, this is definitely something to take into account if you’re considering purchasing a this set. But with Platinums, you do get a 2 year warranty if you purchase them directly from their site, so you will be covered if you do have any issues.

ghd Mini/Max

Essentially, the ghd Mini and Max models are very similar to the ghd Golds, but they have a different width of the iron itself. The regular width for ghd’s is 1 inch, which is perfect for most people. However if you have particularly short hair, or you want to style only your fringe, then the ghd Mini’s might prove to be a better option. One the opposite end of the spectrum, if you have thicker or curly hair, then the ghd Max might be the better option. ghd Eclipse

The ghd Eclipse no longer exists anymore, but I thought that I had better mention it online because I can sometimes still find some available on Amazon. The likelihood is that these are cheap imitation knock off versions of the real thing, which you’ll undoubtedly want to avoid at all costs. The Eclipse ended up being too overpriced for what it was, and so ghd discontinued them a few year ago in favour of the ghd platinums which took their place.

Are ghd’s the best brand around?

When you’re looking for straighteners, there’s a lot of different models out there to choose from. It can be difficult to know which is best, and to do so, you really need to evaluate each of them separately. At the top of the pile comes ghd, who are known for producing some of the best straighteners around.

There are some other brands out there that are worth considering too.

Overall, these are currently the best options that ghd have to offer. Whilst some have fallen by the wayside, the Gold and the Platinums still dominate in terms of sales and popularity. When we’re talking about ghd’s, two different models come to mind immediately. We have their original model which catapulted them into popularity, but we also have the ghd Gold’s, which are essentially an updated version of the originals.

Though they are very similar, there are a few differences between the two, especially considering the differences in the build of the two different models. But if you’re considering getting yourself a set of ghd’s, which one of them is a better choice?

Well, it can be tough to know. Although they’re pretty even in terms of sales and popularity, one model might make a much better choice for you than the other.

ghd Original vs Gold

The ghd Originals (also known as the IV, or the fours) and the ghd Golds (also known as the V series, or the fives) are some of the most popular around. But which one is a better choice? Well, lets take a look.

ghd Originals

The Originals were what made ghd the brand they are today – which is one of the biggest brands within the hair styling industry. For the majority of people at home, ghd’s provide a decent option for home use, and the originals have supported that for a long time now.

They’re good for most hair types (though for damaged hair I prefer the Platinums) and they do their job properly. They operate at around 185 degrees heat, which is ghd’s ideal heat that they state is perfect for ensuring that your hair doesn’t get damaged when you’re straightening it. If it’s much hotter than this, then you do run the risk of damaging your hair, which is a massive concern for the majority of people when it comes to straightening.

The floating straight edged plates are good for smoothly running through your hair, and their 1 inch width is pretty much the industry standard for any set of hair straighteners.

ghd Golds

If you’re looking for a step up on the Originals, then its a good idea to consider the Golds. They’re similar, but there are a few things about the Gold series which make them a better option.

The best thing about the Golds as opposed to the Originals is their design. The curved edges make a massive difference for most of us that prefer this type of surface over something flat, which can result in hair pulling and breakages – it also allows you to add flicks and curls to your hair a lot easier. The curved design isn’t solely on the edges of the straighteners either, as it’s also on the surface of the ghd’s themselves, which makes it a much smoother experience.

Another good thing about the Golds as opposed to the Originals is that they have universal voltage, which means that you can use them in any country whilst you’re travelling. The originals don’t have this, so it’s worth acknowledging this if you need a set of straighteners and you’re often on the road. So, for the most part, the ghd Gold model are going to be the best option available if you’re comparing them to the Original set.

If you want something that’s a level up on the ghd Gold’s, then it’s worth looking at their platinum series. For the most part, they take the improved design of the Golds and use a special technology to make them a better choice for those with a particular type of hair. For example, if you have fine hair, then they will automatically adjust their heat to suit whatever your hair really needs. This is the main difference between the platinums, as with the Golds and pretty much every other set of flat irons, the heat is distributed equally throughout the entire surface area.

There’s a lot of research about the Platinums which might prove them to be a better option in comparison to other flat irons around. One of the main problems with flat irons is that they can take a tole on your hair in the long run if you use them extensively. So, this kind of technology can help to ensure that you hair stays healthier longer.

One of the main problems with the Platinums is that whilst practically they are very good, they seem more prone to a short life. For what it’s worth, you’re not missing too much with the Eclipse as it was by far their most expensive model, but in terms of usability, it wasn’t much of an improvement over their other models available. It had a fair few complaints online, which the company helped rectify by offering a big discount on their other products. So, as the Eclipse doesn’t exist any longer, make sure that you don’t purchase it online as it’s likely to be a cheap imitation of the originals.

Conclusion

Overall, the Platinums make a great choice for those that are looking for a high quality but high cost flat iron. Their technology is good, and it’s a sign of things to come in the future in terms of straighteners. The Eclipse were released and discontinued pretty quickly in the grand scale of things, and this was primarily down to the fact that the Platinums were so popular (and cheaper) than the Eclipse model.
